How Gymnastics Can Improve Your Body Image

A recent study concluded that a young person's body image is more powerful in deterring them from engaging in a sport than the actual skill itself. Body confidence is vital throughout one's life - building confidence has to start from a young age!


Any kind of exercise releases endorphins, which boost yur body and therefore, your confidence. So, why are our classes specifically motivating?


In gymnastics, there's always something new to learn, which takes the focus away from the bodies appearance and instead allows you to concentrate on its physical potential. There is an immene mfeeling of accomplishment when mastering a new skill, which will always boost your self esteem. This sense of pride manifests itself in a more stable, positive body image.


Let's get technical. Gymnastics predominantly has intrinsic motivations, rather than extrinsic. This defines the focus I mentioned previously: we concentrate on the way our body feels during the sport.


Intrinsic reasons for exercise lead to more consistent engagement with a sport too. This will enable you to reap the long term benefits of joining gymnastics, such as increased flexibility, strength and relieved muscle tension.


Another important aspect is body control. A lot of unhealthy habits stem from wanting to gain control over the size and shape of one's body. Gymnastics allows you to control your movements over time through inceased strength and mental clarity. This guides you in developing healthy controls on your body, without any obsessive or overwhelming connotations.
